Tuition

About Me.

My name is Sarah and I am a qualified teacher with more than 10 years of classroom experience and have tutored many children and young adults over the last 5 years.

These days you’ll mostly find me teaching outside, running forest schools.

I am however, absolutely passionate about ensuring children have access to high quality, fun and engaging academic learning experiences. This is why I also offer tuition, either in your home or online.

All children are amazing, they each have so much to offer, but sometimes school life can be challenging. As a former classroom teacher I know how frustrating it can sometimes be to spread yourself out across 30 children with diverse needs. For the majority of children, their superhero teachers are able to meet all of those needs. But sometimes we all need a little extra help.

Thats where I come in, after you’ve had a chat with your child’s teacher and identified what areas need a little more work, I can offer a personalised curriculum for your child in English or maths (or any other primary subject).

As a trained economist I can also offer mathematics support for KS3 and KS4 .

What Next…?

Once you’ve decided that tuition is right for your child we will arrange a mutually convenient time for us to meet - in person or online. Sessions are usually an hour long, but maybe shorter for younger children.

I will spend the first session assessing your child in a friendly, non threatening way (in fact they probably won’t notice it is an assessment!). I will then develop a plan of action for the following weeks.

I’ll provide brief feedback after each session, and more in depth feedback once a term. I’m not a big fan of homework, but I know that some children are keener than others, if you think that this would be helpful then I can arrange this.

FAQ’s

What does my child need?

If I’m in your home then we need a quiet place to work, a pencil and some paper (children love their own special workbook). I’ll need wifi access if possible.

Online they’ll need a quiet place to work. A laptop or iPad/tablet with Zoom software installed. A pencil and some paper.

I’m not great with technology, how do I get online?

Don’t panic, Zoom is easy to use and I’m happy to talk you through the installation.

You will have a meeting ID and password which is unique to your child.

I advise everyone to chat about online safety with their children. Head to https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk for lots of advice.

How much does it cost?

A one hour individual session is £28.

A group of up to 4 children of the same age/stage of learning is £38 for one hour.

If you are outside of a 10 mile radius of Byfield where I live then an additional fee will apply.

Payment is spread monthly, assuming 39 sessions a year (in line with the academic year).

If you wish to have sessions during the school holiday then please arrange this with me.

What if a session doesn’t happen?

Please give me as much notice as possible if you cannot make a session, then we will try to rearrange for the same week, unfortunately I cannot refund missed sessions.

If I have to cancel a session I will let you know with as much notice as possible and the session will rearranged or refunded.

When are the sessions?

The sessions will take place at the same time each week, usually in the evening. I also offer some weekend sessions.

Can you help with homework?

If there is something specific you would like to work on then please send it to me as far in advance as the session as possible, however I’m always happy to cover homework or revision in a session - tuition should be about what your child needs and helping to build their confidence.
