FAQs
What is Forest School?
Forest school was originally developed in Scandinavia but was introduced to tu=he UK in the early 90’s. The Forest School Association sets out 6 key principles of Forest School:
FS is a long-term process of regular sessions, rather than a one-off or infrequent visits; the cycle of planning, observation, adaptation and review links each session.
• FS takes place in a woodland or natural environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and the natural world.
• FS uses a range of learner-centred processes to create a community for being, development and learning.
• FS aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.
• FS offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves.
• FS is run by qualified Forest School practitioners who continuously maintain and develop their professional practice.
Where are you based?
In the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside. I live in the village of Byfield, but I run my sessions in the nearby village of Woodford Halse.
What are your qualifications?
I qualified as a teacher in 2011 after a career as an Education Economist. I completed my L3 Forest School Leader qualification in 2019. I have a current paediatric first aid certificate.
Why Forest Bees?
I love bees! I love the wide variety of species and how each can be so different, from living in a busy hive like a honey bee to smaller colonies like the tree bees, or a solitary existence like one of my favourites the leaf cutter. I think they’re a good choice to represent the joy of celebrating our differences. Of course the ‘Forest’ aspect relates to the forest school provision I provide.
