Forest School in Lockdown

For Forest Bees Creative Kits, head to my Facebook Page

Well what a strange time we are living in at the moment.

Unable to run my usual Family Forest School sessions, I decided to try and offer something a little different. There are so many wonderful subscription services on the market, so many amazing ideas on Pinterest and beyond, but it can sometimes be a little difficult to decide what to choose or make.

I wanted to offer something which was in line with Forest School principles, but it is almost impossible to do this with a ‘kit’ with instructions. Forest School is all about play, and discovery, about developing the whole child. However this enjoyable craft will hopefully encourage children and adults to think a little about how they can enjoy their local wild spaces.

As a result I designed these little hanging owls, using simple wood slices and other natural or recycled materials. The kits contain instructions to make them; a few spare slices for children to get creative, outside of the confines of the instructions; a word search which introduces the names of some British trees; and some sunflower seeds to plant to enjoy watching grow.

I hope during this confusing time, they will bring a little joy.
